Description
US … TEACHERS
From the very day of the little child’s inception
Since the depths of early man’s uncultured existence
As far a time back as your memory may recall
Written and inscribed on the young heart’s wall
Is the yearning, overarching and searching capacity
To learn and be taught and be guided with tenacity
For a teacher to fearlessly step up and surely be counted
To ensure the untamed horse of education be carefully mounted
Somewhere out there a teacher shows focused dedication
In heat of day and cold of night in solid preparation
For a child with a future that has to learn
His tomorrow is our greatest concern
Against all odds and uncalled animosity
Despite the labour and all your generosity
When fearful child runs away from a life of abuse
And you have to save that which still may be used
When hurt and pain reflects from the eyes of a child
When classrooms are invaded by the reckless and wild
Amidst the demands of a political agenda and ill-informed
Having to deal with both the gifted and intellectually deformed
There is a camaraderie and support of our colleagues all around
Despite the hardships and the strife there is still goodwill to be found
As we tap into the endless resources of the Master of the ages
Teaching and unchaining the minds and freeing them from their cages
On this World Teachers’ Day we lift our heads with the writing on the wall
For our people, with our unions, in our classrooms, still united, we stand tall
Have a glorious World Teachers’ Day.
